Mauritzfontein’s exciting young stallion Danon Platina has made a more than pleasing start with his first yearlings going through the sales ring this year.
The champion son of Deep Impact made headlines at Sunday’s Cape Yearling Sale, when his Millstream Farm consigned son was knocked down to Greg Bortz for R550 000.
Catalogued to Sunday’s auction as Lot 105, the Danon Platina colt is out of useful racemare Approach Me, a four time winner who was runner up in both the Listed Stormsvlei Mile and Listed Winter Oaks.
Danon Platina was also responsible for Oni-San (Lot 149), with that Wilgerbosdrift consigned filly knocked down to Ken Truter for R325 000 at the Cape Sale.
Oni-San was producing by the winning Tiger Ridge mare Fortuny, a daughter of G1 Garden Province Stakes heroine Velvet Green and half-sister to G3 Peninsula Handicap winner Wonder Lawn.
In total, Danon Platina’s four yearlings on offer all sold for a total of R1.175 million, giving the young sire an average price of just under R300 000.
Danon Platina had also enjoyed success earlier this year at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale, where first-crop yearlings by him made up to R350 000.
The only son of legendary racehorse and stallion Deep Impact to stand at stud in South Africa, Danon Platina has an exceptional draft of yearlings set to come up for sale at April’s National Yearling Sale.
