Danon Platina tops KZN Sale standings

Mauritzfontein’s G1 winning stallion Danon Platina made a big impression at Thursday’s KZN Yearling Sale.
The champion son of Deep Impact ended the 2026 KZN Sale as the Leading Sire by Aggregate, with Danon Platina’s yearlings grossing R3.695 million which saw the Mauritzfontein resident head the sires standings.

Top priced Danon Platina yearling was the Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud consigned filly Gun Metal Gal (Lot 51).
Knocked down to Pound Bloodstock for R450 000, Gun Metal Gal is out of a five time winning What A Winter three-parts sister to 2023 G2 World Sports Betting Camellia Stakes heroine Cold Fact.

The sire of graded stakes winners Absolutely Yes, Great Plains and White Pearl, Danon Pearl was Japan’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2014.

Danon Platina smart two-year-old wins again

Mauritzfontein’s resident stallion Danon Platina looks to have come up with a smart two-year-old in the form of Catfish.
The latter made it three wins from his last four starts when he won the ninth and final race at the Vaal on Thursday.

Slowly away, Catfish was given a patient ride by Blaine Marx-Jacobson in Thursday’s Next Vaal Racemeeting Thursday 2 July MR 80 Handicap.
The Danon Platina quickened up smartly to go away and best older rivals by nearly two and a quarter lengths.

Trained by Fabian Habib, Catfish races for Messrs Gareth Kalil, G J Nassif, J Nassif & Tri-Deal Sixteen CC.
Catfish, who was bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, is out of the Var mare Sea Cat.

The Danon Platina gelding, who is bred on the same cross as G3 winner Great Plains, was a R260 000 buy from the 2025 Cape Yearling Sale.

A champion son of legendary racehorse and sire Deep Impact, Danon Platina has 17 lots on offer at the KZN Yearling Sale.

Danon Platina filly wins on debut

Mauritzfontein’s resident sire Danon Platina looks to have come up with another smart sort in the form of Tudor Rose.

The latter made the perfect start to her career when she made a winning debut at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Saturday.
Trained by Glen Kotzen, two-year-old Tudor Rose was sent off a 10-1 shot for Saturday’s Battle Force (2021) Maiden Juvenile Plate (1200m) but she defied her starting price in style.

Under Dezahn Louw, the grey flashed up late to get up close home and win by a head.

Bred and owned by Wilgerbosdrift, Tudor Rose is out of the Kildonan mare Rosier.

She is the third two-year-old winner this season for Danon Platina, the latter Japan’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2014.

Five winners in two days for Danon Platina

Mauritzfontein’s G1 winning stallion Danon Platina enjoyed a fine few days this week.
On Wednesday, Danon Platina was responsible for three winners at Fairview, and the following day the son of Deep Legend had a double at the Vaal.

On Thursday, Danon Platina had four runners at the Vaal, with two winning their respective races and his other pair running third in races second and nine respectively.

Danon Platina’s first winner on Thursday came when his two-year-old son Catfish won the Racing Today Maiden Juvenile Plate (1000m).
Under Blaine Marx-Jacobson, the Fabian Habib trained gelding outclassed his rivals, with Catfish drawing off to win as he liked by five and three quarters.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, the two-year-old races for Messrs Gareth Kalil, G J Nassif, J Nassif & Tri-Deal Sixteen CC.
Catfish, who is out of the Var mare Sea Cat, was a R260 000 buy from the 2025 Cape Yearling Sale.

Danon Platina’s second winner on Thursday was Umami, who won the For Hospitality Bookings Call 011 681 1796 Maiden Plate (F and M) (1600m). The Paul Matchett trained filly ran on strongly to get up close home and break her maiden by two and a quarter lengths.
Bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Umami races for Messrs M B Bloemstein, D Chinsammy, Kenny Govender, E Naicker, A Reynolds & TKP Racing.

Japan’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2014, Danon Platina is set to be represented by his daughter Regeneration in Sunday’s G3 Dennis Drier Poinsettia Stakes.

Wednesday treble for Danon Platina

Mauritzfontein’s blue blooded stallion Danon Platina was responsible for three winners at Fairview on Wednesday.
The son of Deep Impact went close to having a four-timer with Danon Platina filly Princess Of Ajiaal running third in the first race.

Danon Platina’s first success on Wednesday came when his son Perfect Impact romped home to land the second race as he liked. The Dean Smith trained four-year-old turned the #Youcanbetonus! Maiden Plate (1200m) into a one-horse race, with Perfect Impact drawing off to break his maiden by six and a half lengths.

Perfect Impact, who was having his first start in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday, was bred by Lammerskraal Stud and he races for Khaya Stables.
Out of the Dynasty mare Perfect Air, Perfect Impact was a R1 450 000 buy from the 2023 National Yearling Sale.

His sire struck again on Wednesday when Danon Platina filly Oncidium won the sixth race at Fairview.
Under Nirvan Nastili, the flashy grey showed plenty of heart when running on strongly to claim the Racing Today FM 66 Handicap (F and M) (1600m) by a neck.
One of three winners on the day for Dean Smith, Oncidium races for  Colin Gordon, Johnny Gerber & Clint Larsson.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Oncidium is out of the Silvano mare Orchid Island.

Danon Platina’s third and final winner on Wednesday came when his daughter Genovefa won eighth and final race.
Trained by Kelly Mitchley, the four-year-old made it two wins from her last three starts when she won the Next Fairview Racemeeting Friday 24 April FM 72 Handicap (1300m).
Under Muzi Yeni, Genovefa stormed home to get up close home and win by a head.

Bred by Wicklow Stud, Genovefa is out of the Captain Al mare Skipping Gal.

Japanese champion Danon Platina enjoyed good success at the recent National Yearling Sale, where his progeny made up to R500 000.

Mauritzfontein’s resident sire, and Japanese champion, Danon Platina, came up with a good looking debut winner on Wednesday.
Danon Platina’s two-year-old son Kazenoyoni made the perfect start to his career when he won the first race at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.

Under Craig Zackey, the Duncan Howells trained colt came from nowhere to win the Bet With Colossus Exclusive On www.tote.co.za Maiden Juvenile Plate (1200m) by nearly a length.
Bred by Moutonshoek, Kazenoyoni races for SA Punters Forum Syndicate (Pty) Ltd (Nom: Mr Deva Govender), Messrs G D Bodill, D C Howells, W L Reich, T L Tait, N S Subban & S Gopaul.

Wednesday’s winner, who is out of the Mambo In Seattle mare Bize, was a R275 000 buy from the 2025 National Yearling Sale.

Champion Danon Platina shares his legendary sire Deep Impact with a host of high-class sires, including Real Steel and Saxon Warrior. The former is responsible for Japanese Horse Of The Year, and dual G1 Saudi Cup winner, Forever Young and the latter is the sire of impressive recent G1 The Agency Randwick Guineas winner Sheza Alibi.

Danon Platina has five lots on the Premier Yearling Sale, and a further 18 lots on the National Yearling Sale.

Tuesday double for Danon Platina

Mauritzfontein’s resident sire Danon Platina enjoyed a good day at the Vaal on Tuesday.
Not only did his daughter Manyeleti make an impressive winning debut, but another Danon Platina daughter Oriental Bouquet won the fifth race on the card.

Three-year-old Manyeleti made a big impression when romping home to win Tuesday’s #Youcanbetonus! Maiden Plate (F and M) (1000m). Under Craig Zackey, the Lucky Houdalakis trained filly made most of the running to score on debut, as she liked, by three lengths.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Manyeleti races for Steven and Jessica Jell and Rachel Slack.

Out of the Tiger Ridge mare Meryl, Manyeleti is bred on the same Danon Platina/Tiger Ridge cross as graded stakes winners Absolutely Yes and White Pearl.

Another bred on the Danon Platina/Tiger Ridge cross is Oriental Bouquet, winner of Tuesday’s TAB4Racing App MR 66 Handicap (1000m).
Under Kobeli Lihaba, the Grant Maroun owned and trained mare put her head down where it mattered most and got up to win by a short-head.
Bred by Riethuiskraal Stud, Oriental Bouquet is out of the Tiger Ridge mare Jo Malone.

 

 

Danon Platina also enjoyed feature race success recently when his son Landoftherisingsun won the Listed Settlers Trophy.

Settlers Trophy success for Danon Platina

Fresh off coming up with a pair of winners on Friday, Mauritzfontein’s inform stallion Danon Platina came up with a feature race winner at Hollywoodbets Durbanville the following day.
Danon Platina gelding Landoftherisingsun claimed his biggest win to date when he ran out a convincing winner of the Listed Settlers Trophy (2000m) on Saturday.

Under Muzi Yeni, the Justin Snaith trained four-year-old made it three wins from his four starts with his victory in Saturday’s R225 000 contest.

Landoftherisingsun powered into the lead close home and he kept going to score a shade cosily by a length.

Owned by Mesdames Nancy Hossack & Estate Late Pamela Isdell & Kalinga, Landoftherisingsun was bred by Drakenstein Stud.

 

The uber consistent Landoftherisingsun has finished in the money in ten of his 11 starts. Out of the Trippi mare Dawn Rising, Saturday’s winner was a R900 000 buy from the 2023 National Yearling Sale.

Landoftherising hails from the second crop of his sire Danon Platina, with this crop also producing G3 Cape Classic winner Great Plains, Need For Speed Sprint winner Luhamba Phambili, and G2 Betway Spring Challenge runner up Wild At War.

Friday double for Danon Platina

Japanese champion Danon Platina had a good day on Friday. The son of Deep Impact was responsible for two winners on the day, with Danon Platina gelding Malongane finishing second in the second race at Hollywoodbets Greyville.

Danon Platina’s first success on the day came when his daughter Genovefa won the second race at Fairview.

Trained by Kelly Mitchley, Genovefa unleashed a fine turn of foot which saw her get up close home to win the Racing Today Maiden Plate (F and M) (1200m) by a head.
Ridden by Louis Mxothwa, the Wicklow Stud bred Genovefa is out of the Captain Al mare Skipping Gal.

Genovefa, who was making her first start in the Eastern Cape on Friday, races for Des de Andrade & Scott Gaskell.

Danon Platina’s second success on Friday came when his daughter Grand Occasion won the www.galloptv.co.za Class 4 (F and M) (1600m) for Gareth Van Zyl and Nicholas Patel.
The Boland Stud bred filly dug down deep to land Friday night’s contest by just under a length for owners Messrs H F Schwegmann & J Te Riele.
Now a two time winner, Grand Occasion is out of the Visionaire mare Missibaba.

 

By the same sire as such high-class stallions as Kizuna, Study Of Man, and Satono Aladdin, Danon Platina has some very exciting three-year-olds this season. This group includes the likes of Absolutely Yes, Aristocratic, Tina Lovelace and Pomp It Up.

The champion son of Deep Impact has a single lot on offer at the Two Year Old Sale.

Debut winner for Danon Platina

Mauritzfontein’s well performed stallion Danon Platina came up with an eye catching debut winner on Tuesday. 
His newly turned three-year-old daughter Party Girl made the perfect start to her career when she won the first race at Fairview. 
 
Under S’Manga Khumalo, the Alan Greeff trained Party Girl hit the front 100m from home in the Welcome To Nelson Mandela Bay Maiden Plate (1300m) and stayed on to score by a short-head. 
It was a good effort from Party Girl, who was very green in running. 
 
Bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Party Girl races for Hollywood Racing. 
 
Tuesday’s winner is out of the Tapit mare Still Tappin. 
 
Her sire Danon Platina, Japan’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2014, had a fine season in 2024-2025 where his flagbearers included the graded stakes winners Absolutely Yes, Great Plains and White Pearl. 
The son of legendary racehorse and sire Deep Impact ended last season fourth on South Africa’s Leading Sires of 2YOs premiership when Danon Platina was responsible for 11 two-year-old winners. 
 
Also the sire of 2025 G1 Douglas Whyte Thekwini Stakes runner up Tina Lovelace, Danon Platina has 16 lots on offer at the 2025 August Two Year Old Sale, including a full-sister (Lot 22) to the smart Versace Onthetrack.
