Mauritzfontein’s resident stallion Danon Platina looks to have come up with a smart two-year-old in the form of Catfish.
The latter made it three wins from his last four starts when he won the ninth and final race at the Vaal on Thursday.
Slowly away, Catfish was given a patient ride by Blaine Marx-Jacobson in Thursday’s Next Vaal Racemeeting Thursday 2 July MR 80 Handicap.
The Danon Platina quickened up smartly to go away and best older rivals by nearly two and a quarter lengths.

Catfish, who was bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, is out of the Var mare Sea Cat.
The Danon Platina gelding, who is bred on the same cross as G3 winner Great Plains, was a R260 000 buy from the 2025 Cape Yearling Sale.
