Mauritzfontein’s impeccably bred sire, and Japanese champion, Danon Platina has made a very pleasing start to his stud career and the champion son Deep Impact came up with his eighth first crop winner when his daughter Oni San won at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday afternoon.
Trained by Vaughan Marshall, two-year-old Oni San had finished third last time out and she duly made amends for that defeat with a convincing display in Saturday’s Cape Turf Club Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) over 1200 metres.
Always up with the pace, under Anthony Andrews, Oni San kicked away in the closing stages and stayed on nicely to win by a length.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Oni San is out of the Tiger Ridge mare Fortuny.
The filly was a R325 000 purchase from the 2022 Cape Yearling Sale.
Japan’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2014, Danon Platina has made a very smart start to his stud career, with his early winners including the promising filly Platina Princess, Romance In Rome –winner of two of his four starts, and debut winner Oriental Bouquet.
Another winning member of this first crop is Unconquerable Lady, who has been entered in the Listed Lady’s Slipper Stakes.
