Sunday double for Danon Platina

Mauritzfontein’s exciting young stallion Danon Platina has made a cracking start with his first two-year-olds this season, and the son of Deep Impact was at it again on Sunday when a pair of Danon Platina sired two-year-olds won the first two races run at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.
Danon Platina filly Lady Lacewing showed the benefit of experience when she won the first race on Sunday’s card, the World Sports Betting Welcomes You Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1200m), in courageous fashion.
Always up with the pace, the Michael Miller trained filly was given a well judged ride by Robert Khathi, who kept his mount going in the closing stages to register a gutsy near three-parts of a length win.
Bred by Mr and Mrs Jonathan Martin, Lady Lacewing had finished fourth last time out.
Out of the Var mare Anatevka, Lady Lacewing was an R80 000 buy from the 2022 KZN Yearling Sale.
She is the fifth winner to have emerged from Danon Platina’s first crop, and his sixth winner emerged in the very next race when Danon Platina filly Oriental Bouquet made a winning debut to land Sunday’s WSB Bet with the Best Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1200m) in convincing style.
Under Craig Zackey, the Duncan Howells trained two-year-old flew up late to win going away by just under three-parts of a length.
Bred by Riethuiskraal Stud (who also bred Danon Platina’s very first winner Romance In Rome), Oriental Bouquet is out of the Tiger Ridge mare Jo Malone.
The promising filly was a R120 000 purchase from last year’s National Yearling Sale.
Japanese champion Danon Platina has now had 13 members of his first-crop either win or finish in the money, and he looks a very exciting young sire.
One of more than 180 stakes winners sired by legendary racehorse and stallion Deep Impact, Danon Platina has a cracking draft on offer at this year’s National Yearling Sale, including a half-sister (Lot 12) to G1 Daily News 2000 runner up Padre Pio, a filly (Lot 74) out of G3 Strelitzia Stakes heroine She’s A Stunner, a colt (Lot 82) out of G3 Acacia Handicap victress Simply Royal, and a colt (Lot 322) out of G3 Strelitzia Stakes winner Inverroche.
