Friday double for Danon Platina

Japanese champion Danon Platina had a good day on Friday. The son of Deep Impact was responsible for two winners on the day, with Danon Platina gelding Malongane finishing second in the second race at Hollywoodbets Greyville.

Danon Platina’s first success on the day came when his daughter Genovefa won the second race at Fairview.

Trained by Kelly Mitchley, Genovefa unleashed a fine turn of foot which saw her get up close home to win the Racing Today Maiden Plate (F and M) (1200m) by a head.
Ridden by Louis Mxothwa, the Wicklow Stud bred Genovefa is out of the Captain Al mare Skipping Gal.

Genovefa, who was making her first start in the Eastern Cape on Friday, races for Des de Andrade & Scott Gaskell.

Danon Platina’s second success on Friday came when his daughter Grand Occasion won the www.galloptv.co.za Class 4 (F and M) (1600m) for Gareth Van Zyl and Nicholas Patel.
The Boland Stud bred filly dug down deep to land Friday night’s contest by just under a length for owners Messrs H F Schwegmann & J Te Riele.
Now a two time winner, Grand Occasion is out of the Visionaire mare Missibaba.

 

By the same sire as such high-class stallions as Kizuna, Study Of Man, and Satono Aladdin, Danon Platina has some very exciting three-year-olds this season. This group includes the likes of Absolutely Yes, Aristocratic, Tina Lovelace and Pomp It Up.

The champion son of Deep Impact has a single lot on offer at the Two Year Old Sale.

Debut winner for Danon Platina

Mauritzfontein’s well performed stallion Danon Platina came up with an eye catching debut winner on Tuesday. 
His newly turned three-year-old daughter Party Girl made the perfect start to her career when she won the first race at Fairview. 
 
Under S’Manga Khumalo, the Alan Greeff trained Party Girl hit the front 100m from home in the Welcome To Nelson Mandela Bay Maiden Plate (1300m) and stayed on to score by a short-head. 
It was a good effort from Party Girl, who was very green in running. 
 
Bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Party Girl races for Hollywood Racing. 
 
Tuesday’s winner is out of the Tapit mare Still Tappin. 
 
Her sire Danon Platina, Japan’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2014, had a fine season in 2024-2025 where his flagbearers included the graded stakes winners Absolutely Yes, Great Plains and White Pearl. 
The son of legendary racehorse and sire Deep Impact ended last season fourth on South Africa’s Leading Sires of 2YOs premiership when Danon Platina was responsible for 11 two-year-old winners. 
 
Also the sire of 2025 G1 Douglas Whyte Thekwini Stakes runner up Tina Lovelace, Danon Platina has 16 lots on offer at the 2025 August Two Year Old Sale, including a full-sister (Lot 22) to the smart Versace Onthetrack.

Langerman glory for Danon Platina

Mauritzfontein’s inform stallion Danon Platina had a day to remember at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.
The Japanese champion was responsible for a pair of eye catching two-year-old winners on Saturday with his son Absolutely Yes landing Saturday’s G3 Langerman (1500m) in courageous fashion.

Trained by Justin Snaith, Absolutely Yes made it back to back feature race wins with his Langerman victory. The Danon Platina gelding had captured the Listed Somerset 1200 last time out.

Under a fine, front running ride from Muzi Yeni Absolutely Yes made all to win Saturday’s Hollywoodbets Kenilworth feature by just under half a length. A subsequent objection was overruled and the result was allowed to stand.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, the gelding races for Greg Bortz, Leon Ellman and Gina Goldsmith.
Absolutely Yes, an R800 000 purchase from the 2024 National Yearling Sale, has won three of five starts.

The gelding is out of the Tiger Ridge mare Maybe Yes and is bred on the same Danon Platina/Tiger Ridge cross as G2 Mike De Kock Ipi Tombe Challenge winner White Pearl.

Absolutely Yes was one of two-year-old winners on Saturday for Danon Platina, with the latter’s daughter Oncidium an impressive winner of Saturday’s second race.
Another trained by Justin Snaith, Oncidium romped home to land the Race Coast Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1400m) by two and a quarter lengths while making just her second start.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Oncidium races for Messrs Jonsson and Ross.

The filly, who is out of the Silvano mare Orchid Island, was a R650 000 buy from the 2024 National Sale.

Danon Platina, Japan’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2014, has been responsible for eight two-year-old winners this season.

The United States, whose relative Henri Matisse ran second in Tuesday’s G1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, also enjoyed success at Turffontein on Sunday.His lightly raced son Banff caught the eye when he won Sunday’s seventh race for Sean Tarry and Callan Murray.Bred by Moutonshoek, the three-year-old has won two of five starts, with Banff having kicked off his career with a debut win at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth. 

Impressive debut winner for Danon Platina

Fresh off siring the recent Listed Somerset 1200 winner Absolutely Yes, Mauritzfontein’s inform stallion Danon Platina came up with another good looking two-year-old winner on Wednesday.[Text Wrapping Break]Danon Platina colt Aristocratic made the perfect start to his career when making a winning debut at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday. 

 

Trained by Dean Kannemeyer, the Danon Platina colt made a big impression when he won the Race Coast -Bright Future For SA Horse Racing Maiden Juvenile Plate (1200m). 

Under Craig Zackey, Aristocratic unleashed a smart turn of foot which saw him mow down his rivals and get up to win going away by more than three and a quarter lengths. 

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Aristocratic is out of the Silvano mare Simply Royal. 

 

The colt was a R900 000 purchase from the 2024 National Yearling Sale. 

 

Aristocratic is the seventh two-year-old winner this season for his sire Danon Platina, who was Japan’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2014. 

Danon Platina’s other juvenile winners this season include the aforementioned Absolutely Yes and the promising debut winner Limerick Lace. The latter is set to contest Sunday’s Highveld Winter Juvenile Fillies Stakes at Turffontein. 

Danon Platina gelding lands Somerset 1200

Mauritzfontein’s resident sire Danon Platina has some very promising two-year-olds to his name this season. 

This tally includes the smart Absolutely Yes, who ran out a game winner of the Listed Somerset 1200 (1200m) at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Sunday. 

Trained by Justin Snaith, the grey Absolutely Yes made it two wins from four starts with a hard fought win in the Somerset 1200. 

Under JP Van Der Merwe, the Danon Platina gelding dug down deep to best a game runner up Churchillian and score by a long neck. 

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, the two-year-old, runner up in the recent G3 Winter Nursery, was an R800 000 purchase from the 2024 National Yearling Sale. 

Absolutely Yes, who is out of the Tiger Ridge mare Maybe Yes, is bred on the same Danon Platina/Tiger Ridge cross as G2  Mike De Kock Ipi Tombe Challenge winner White Pearl. 

Sunday’s winner is one of six two-year-old winners this season thus far for former Japanese Champion 2YO Colt Danon Platina. This tally also includes Whispering Death, winner of two of three starts, and debut winner Limerick Lace. The latter holds an entry for Saturday’s Listed Ridgemont Devon Air Stakes.

Ideal World relative lands Lockinge Stakes

Mauritzfontein’s inform sire Ideal World hails from one of the best families in the studbook.
This family gained another handsome boost when Lead Artist won the G1 BoyleSports Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.
Strongly backed,  the four-year-old was backed down from morning odds of 18-1 to finish at 17-2. 

Fallen Angel led the field until two furlongs to go before Lead Artist got the better of a sustained battle with 2-1 favourite Dancing Gemini. 

Murphy, riding his first top-level Group One winner for owners Juddmonte, edged ahead by a neck in the final strides. 

Lead Artist is Coral’s 4-1 favourite for next month’s Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot, with Dancing Gemini a point longer and Rosallion a 6-1 chance. 

A son of Dubawi, Lead Artist is out of the Frankel mare Obligate. The latter won three times including the G2 Prix de Sandringham, with Obligate herself a daughter of the Oasis Dream mare Responsible, with Responsible’s dam none other than mighty matron Hasili. 

The latter, granddam of Ideal World, produced outstanding sire Dansili as well as such G1 winners as Champs Elysees, Cacique, Intercontinental, Heat Haze and Banks Hill. 

Banks Hill, whose five wins include both the G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly &Mare Turf and G1 Prix Jacques le Marois, is the dam of G1 Prix Jean Romanet winner Romantica, Trojan Queen –the granddam of G1 winning sire Belbek, and Ideal World. 

The latter, whose progeny include such champions as Rainbow Bridge and Smart Call, is the sire of more than 30 stakes winners including this season’s G2 TAB Gauteng Guineas winner Parisian Walkway and Listed East Cape Oaks winner Lotus Island.

Mauritzfontein’s well performed stallion Danon Platina has a very promising crop of two-year-olds in 2024-2025. 
Deep Impact’s champion son came up with another good looking two-year-old winner on Saturday when Danon Platina filly Limerick Lace made a winning debut at Turffontein. 
Trained by Mathew and Mike De Kock, Limerick Lace powered home to win the second race on Saturday. 
Under Callan Murray, the two-year-old stormed away to win the Play Soccer 6,10, and 13 Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1160m) by two and a quarter lengths. 
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Limerick Lace was a R280 000 buy from the 2024 Cape Yearling Sale. 
Limerick Lace, who is out of the Tiger Ridge mare Limerick Ridge, is bred on the same Danon Platina/Tiger Ridge cross as high-class filly White Pearl. 
Saturday’s winner is the sixth two-year-old winner this season for Danon Platina, Japan’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2014. 
Other promising two-year-olds representing Danon PLatina this season are Whispering Death, G3 Winter Nursery runner up Absolutely Yes, and Tina Lovelace. The latter ran third in the G3 Pretty Polly Stakes. 
Danon Platina’s son Grey Jet holds an entry for the G1 Daily News 2000, while his daughters Miss Platina and Regeneration both hold entries for the same day’s G2 Tote Woolavington 2000.

Wednesday double for Ideal World

Mauritzfontein’s consistently successful sire Ideal World had a pair of winners at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday. It was a 100% strike rate for Ideal World, who had just two runners on the day.
The son of Kingmambo’s first success came when his two-year-old daughter Alannah won the second race.
Trained by Paul Lafferty, Alannah turned the Online Form Guide www.gallop.co.za Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1400m) into a one-horse race. 

Under Kabelo Matsunyane, the filly pulled well clear of her rivals to shed her maiden impressively with a three length score.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Alannah is out of the Silvano mare Mrs Simpson. 

Ideal World’s second success on Wednesday came his son Uzwano won the fifth race at Hollywoodbets Greyville.
Trained by Dean Kannemeyer, the gelded three-year-old, under Sean Veale, stayed on to land the Tabgold New Soccer Corners Class 4 (1600m) by just under half a length.
Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Uzwano has won twice from just eight starts. 

Out of the Horse Chestnut mare Banbury, Uzwano is bred on the same Ideal World/Horse Chestnut cross as Met winning champion Smart Call.
