DIGITAL RELATIVE MAINTAINS HIS UNBEATEN RECORD

By Digital Age

Mauritzfontein’s exciting young stallion Digital Age hails from an exceptional female line, and his family was to the fore again this weekend.
Promising three-year-old The Watcher, a brother in blood to Digital Age, made it two wins from two starts when he won at Wolverhampton on Saturday.
Despite carrying a seven-pound penalty for his debut win over six furlongs at Newcastle in December, The Watcher tanked his way to the front from the break. Extending his advantage from the top of the home straight, the 1-5 favourite hit the line with five lengths to spare over Kamekist in Saturday’s Gamble Responsibly At BetMGM Novice Stakes.
Trained by Karl Burke, The Watcher is out of the Lope De Vega mare Lunar Vega.
The Watcher and Digital Age are both sons of Invincible Spirit, with G3 Musidora Stakes winner Time Away (Darshaan) rating as the third dam of both Digital Age and The Watcher.
Both horses are descendants of the outstanding racemare Time Charter, Timeform’s top-rated three-year-old of 1982. Time Charter won nine of 20 starts, and won all of the G1 The Oaks, G1 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes, G1 Coronation Cup, and G1 Champion Stakes.
This is also the family of English Derby winners Tulyar and Trigo.
By the same sire as I Am Invincible and Kingman, Digital Age won five of 13 starts, with his biggest career coming in the 2020 G1 Old Forester Bourbon Turf Classic Stakes at Churchill Downs.
Digital Age’s first foals arrived last year.

Ideal World gelding lands TAB Gauteng Guineas

By Farm news, Ideal World

Mauritzfontein’s high-class sire Ideal World had a big payday at Turffontein on Saturday. His three-year-old son Parisian Walkway showed the benefits of gelding when he won the G2 TAB Gauteng Guineas (1600m) over some of the country’s top three-year-olds.

In landing Saturday’s R1 000 000 contest, Parisian Walkway became Ideal World’s 32nd stakes winner.

Trained, like Ideal World’s champion daughter Smart Call, by Alec Laird, Parisian Walkway was given a tremendous ride by Diego De Gouveia in the Gauteng Guineas.

De Gouveia took his mount to the front early on, but Parisian Walkway appeared beaten as the favourite, Greaterix, loomed up close home.

However, De Gouveia coaxed a little bit more from his courageous mount and the pair fought back to win by just under half a length.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Parisian Walkway was knocked down to A G Racing for R450 000 at the 2023 August Two Year Old Sale.

The gelding is out of the Mastercraftsman mare Boutique.

Parisian Walkway, one of two runners in the 2025 Gauteng Guineas sired by Ideal World, was one of two winners for his inform sire at Turffontein on Saturday.

Ideal World gelding Tamarisk Tree, who had to overcome an objection, made it back to back wins when he won the third race at Turffontein.

Under a strong ride from Gavin Lerena, the Robbie Sage trained five-year-old dug down deep to land the For Hospitality Bookings Call 011 681 1796 MR96 Handicap by a neck.

Another bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Tamarisk Tree has won five of 26 starts for earnings of R544,688.

Saturday’s winner, who is bred on similar lines to the Ideal World sired stakes winners Onesie and Perfection, was produced by the Belong To Me mare Milk And Honey.

Ideal World, whose close relative Dansili is broodmare sire of Saturday’s G2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas queen Spumante Dolce, is having a fine run with his runners.

On Wednesday, his daughter Mocha Blend made it two wins from three starts when winning at Hollywoodbets Greyville and the following day, Ideal World filly Ancient Wisdom won for a second time, in just six starts, when victorious at the Vaal.
